Social media has been used by supporters to criticize Nicholas Jackson after he blew a fantastic opportunity to put Chelsea ahead against Manchester City.

Despite having an unsatisfactory debut season in English football, the 22-year-old has scored 13 goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s struggling team this season in all competitions.

In the FA Cup semi-final, he continued to struggle in front of goal, earning him criticism for squandering several excellent opportunities.

At the halfway point, Enzo Fernandez put the Senegalese striker clean through on goal after he had fled from his own half.

He tried to find Cole Palmer before Nathan Ake intercepted him by going around Ortega but could not pull the trigger.

Chelsea supporters vented their annoyance on social media, with some arguing that the team needs a new striker.

One said: ‘As good as Jackson is, that right there is probably why we’re looking at a striker.’

Another wrote: ‘Jackson is so frustrating lmao. He’s actually a good player, i don’t know why he does these things.’

Jackson man… how can he missed that. What’s been costing us all season’ said a third fan.

Jackson’s lousy luck persisted throughout the second half when Ortega pushed away his curling attempt after Conor Gallagher had passed him in.

Palmer supplied the striker with a cross a few seconds later, but the City keeper met his header squarely.
