Kylian Mbappé joins Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain
Mbappé’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain occurred two days after Real Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund to win a record-tying 15th European Cup, bolstering the team’s offensive line.
The 25-year-old, who set PSG’s scoring record in his seven years at the French club, will team up in the Spanish capital with players like Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, two of the best players in the world, to perhaps create a soccer dynasty.
Shortly after the announcement, Mbappé posted on social media, calling the transfer “a dream come true.”
“Very excited and honored to be a part of the team of my dreams, @Real Madrid,” he wrote next to an old picture of himself sporting a Madrid jacket.
“Nobody can comprehend my current level of excitement. Madridistas, I can’t wait to meet you. I appreciate all of your amazing support. “Hala Madrid!”
Even before he agreed to a two-year contract deal with PSG in 2022 that included a player option for a third year, Mbappé was linked to a move to Madrid for a long time.
After playing more than 300 games for the team, he won the Ligue 1 title a month later in March, and scored his 250th goal in March.
Mbappé has won six league titles with PSG and one with his former club, AS Monaco. Still, he has not yet added a Champions League title to his list of professional accomplishments, which also includes winning the World Cup with France in 2018. This is despite his notable success in domestic competitions.
However, with six European titles in the last ten years, Real Madrid boasts unparalleled success in the competition; this could change.
With a rumored $214 million transfer from Monaco to PSG in 2017, Mbappé became the second most expensive player in the world, behind Neymar Jr.
In August 2021, Real made a bid of $188 million for Mbappé, a deal that was almost finalized. Mbappé had already declared his desire to leave PSG.
In the end, he reversed course and signed a three-year contract extension to remain in Paris, but it appeared like a matter of time until he signed a deal to play for Real Madrid, the team he had always wanted to play for.
