Kylian Mbappé suffers broken nose, French football player Kylian Mbappé cracked his nose during Monday’s 1-0 victory over Austria in the Euro 2024 tournament, the French Football Federation (FFF) said in a statement to Reuters.

When Mbappé, who is expected to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain, went to challenge for the ball, he unintentionally headbutted Austrian defender Kevin Danso in the 86th minute.

The FFF said Mbappé was taken to a local hospital, where X-rays confirmed the break.

According to a Reuters statement, “Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the second half of the Austria vs France match this Monday in Düsseldorf.”

“First attending to the French team leader was physician Franck Le Gall, who determined that he had a broken nose. Radiological scans at the Düsseldorf hospital confirmed the diagnosis.

“Kylian Mbappé is back at the French team’s base camp. He will not be having surgery right away; instead, he will receive treatment in the upcoming days. After a time spent receiving treatment, a mask will be created to enable the French team’s number 10 to think about returning to action, the FFF continued.

After the match, Mbappé posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, asking for ideas for his new mask.

It’s uncertain if Mbappé will recover in time for France’s pivotal Group D match on Friday against the Netherlands.

After Austria’s victory, manager Didier Deschamps told reporters, “He has a nose that’s messed up, this is for sure.”

“With Kylian, the French team will always be superior. But we shall continue without him if the news doesn’t improve in this way.

Widely regarded as one of the top players in the world, Mbappé has 47 goals in 80 appearances for the national team. He also contributed to Les Bleus’ victory over Austria by setting up the cross that resulted in Max Wöber’s own goal.
