Andres Iniesta believes Mohamed Salah had the makings of a “special” signing for Barcelona.

Salah, a talented player for Liverpool, is not sure what the future holds. He has a year left on his Anfield contract, and there is still a lot of uncertainty around his future.

For a long time, Saudi teams have been trying to lure him to the Middle East. In recent years, Barcelona and Real Madrid, in particular, have shown a noticeable amount of interest in Salah in Spain.

Salah, however, continued to support Jurgen Klopp and the Reds and remained in the Premier League. In 2020, the forward made a hint that he might be amenable to a transfer to Camp Nou.

“I think Madrid and Barcelona are two top clubs,” he declared. I am currently focused on helping Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League once more. Who knows what the future holds.”

President of Barcelona Joan Laporta suggested at the time that Salah might be open to switching. “It’s obvious that elite players want to join Barca,” he stated in an interview with Spanish radio station RAC1. They’ll tell me that I’m causing issues in the club’s discussions, and I have no idea if we’re in talks to sign [Robert] Lewandowski and [Mohamed] Salah.”

In fact, in the summer of 2022, Barcelona promised Salah something. Catalan chiefs informed the forward that he could sign a free transfer with them the following season when his previous deal was set to expire. That assurance was insufficient in the end, and Salah signed a new contract with Liverpool.

Legend of Barcelona Iniesta has now expressed his disappointment that the Catalan giants did not complete Salah’s transfer. “Signing Mohamed Salah would have been a special deal for Barcelona,” he insisted in a podcast interview with Vamos La Liga.

Thanks to his contract, Salah is now the highest-paid player in the club’s history. Since then, Salah has been an integral part of the Reds’ lineup. He scored 25 more goals in the most recent season after scoring 30 in the 2022–2023 campaign.
